Libre al fin!

Otro hermoso dia en Chicago! Salio el sol, subio la temperatura y Emilio cumplio 70 dias! Para celebrar lo sacamos de la "carcel" y salimos a dar otro paseo.

Esta vez, lo lleve Rochelle Lee, la organizacion que da dinero a maestros para que compren libros para su clase. Llevo muchos anos participando en sus programas y me habian pedido hace tiempo que llevara a Emilio.

Para una ocasion tan especial Emilio lucio ropa nueva incluidos sus primeros vaqueros. Cuando llegamos a la oficina nos recibio Marek, que es de Polonia. Se puso a silbar y Emilio lo imito poniendo los labios como para silbar. Fue muy divertido! En el libro que tengo sobre el desarrollo del nino en su primer ano dice que a partir de la semana 4 los ninos ya empiezan a imitar los gestos de los adultos. No me crei hasta que justo en medio de esa semana Emilio empezo a imitar nuestros gestos.

Todos elogiaron a Emilio (por supuesto, a nadie se le ocurre criticarlo delante mio) y me preguntaron si siempre es tan tranquilo y dulce. Les dije que si, menos cuando le dan esos ataques de belleza y llora como un descosido.

La organizacion Rochelle Lee ha sido muy valiosa en mi desarrollo como maestra. No solo me dieron dinero 4 anos consecutivos para ampliar la biblioteca de mi clase, pero ofrecen entrenamiento y talleres muy buenos para maestros. Tambien formo parte de los grupos literarios que ofrecen. Mi colega Heidi y yo llevamos 4 anos liderando uno de esos grupos. Somos varios maestros que nos reunimos una vez al mes y conversamos sobre literatura. Desde que nacio Emilio no he podido asistir pero este mes voy a intentar ir.

El libro que estamos leyendo para Enero es una novela que se llama The Other Boleyn Girl y trata de la hermana de Ana Bolena. Esta narrada por Mary Bolena y es un reflejo de la vida en la corte, las tramas politicas pero sobre todo de la relacion de amor y rivalidad entre las hermanas. Lo recomiendo, sobre todo a los que les interesa novelas historicas.

Another beautiful day in Chicago! We got Emilio out of "jail" and took him for another walk. He turned 70 so for the special ocassion he wore a nice new outfit. I took him to a very special place: the Rochelle Lee Fund. This is an amazing organization that provides money and training to teachers in the Chicago Public Schools. I have received their award 4 times and I’ve taken part in many of their programs, as a participant and as a presenter. My colleague Heidi and I have facilitated one of their book discussions groups for several years now. We meet with other teachers and discuss a piece of literature.

The book for this month is called The Other Boleyn Girl and is a novel about Mary Boleyn, Anne Boleyn sister (remember, she was decapitated by her husband) The book narrates the story of how both sisters came to positions of power (and lost it) as well as the relationship between them. I’m still in the first chapters (and I don’t think I’ll be able to attend the discussion on Monday) but I’m already enjoying the story. I’m usually not interested in stories of Kings and Queens but I am interested in the relationship between the sisters and their struggles to lead their own lives when everybody else is trying to control their destiny.
